Glad to hear your existing plan renewed! It's worth watching for the first renewals requested after the posted plan changes. As has been pointed out, FreeUP has been good about grandfathering existing plans, but time will tell.
Wow, I haven't checked my freeup account page in the past week since the coupons went away. Glad I missed all of this, I got lucky and skipped some stress. crossing my fingers freeup can stay afloat since it's worked out for me so well (plus all the credit I still have).
Yes, mad coupons provided by the Mad Men and women of the ginormous advertising industry, which has a huge, sophisticated data analytics base that allows companies to crunch the numbers and predict who will buy what when, where, as well as at what price, and which is an industry who thinks it knows the best way to convince consumers to buy. However, that said, we FU customers contracted with FU, not ad companies, and in doing so we hoped that the founders of FU had performed due diligence on the companies they would be contracting with and relying on for their business to succeed. Yet everyone's knowledge base, no matter how much work went into acquiring it, is limited, and grave mistakes do happen because of this, or due to lack of due diligence. So I'm pretty sure the ad companies had a clear idea as to what percentage of ads, out of 210 ads printed a month per individual account, would actually be used to purchase products, which was probably a one-digit number. Thus I suspect the ad companies were little surprised by the redemption numbers of FU users, but rather FU was surprised by the behavior of the ad company they chose, which FU has little leverage to change. On the bright side, if on my two accounts, I had actually purchased the 420 products using my printed coupons, I'd likely weigh 420 pounds and be out thousands of dollars spent on the new pantry and large refrigerator needed to preserve and keep cool my discounted products. Anyway, below is a link to a few thoughts from people who supposedly worked in the ad world talking about non-payments.
"Ad networks are notorious for banning people as soon as they request a payout."
I haven't seen any posts about plan renewals and possibly grandfathered plans since tech-stitch's above-- and that one was a little unusual since the renewal was requested before the plans changed.
My first line rolls over on the 28th, so I checked today to see what renewal options were available. The system did allow me to renew my early (free) 500 T&T/100mb plan. My previous rewards balance (missing for a day or 2 like everyone's) remains restored and visible.
I hope everyone sees the same grandfathered renewal option!
Speaking of that, my plan failed to renew. I had to call them and they renewed the original one and supposedly had given a free month of service. It turns out they deducted the $20.00 from a combination of the account balance and the rewards. I have since e-mailed back but have not yet received a resolution. The representative I spoke with on the phone indicated that I could be placed on the other plan I had intended to be by contacting then the next month. Since things did not quite work out, I am not sure I was provided correct information. I will update on this later.
Oh, no.... I guess I'll have to continue holding my breath for another week....
I was able to renew my free plan 500 talk and text and 100mb 3 days ago with no problems. My paid 15 dollar plan renewed today and it gave me the correct unlimited talk and text and 1GB of data and deducted the 15 bucks from my 40 dollar reward balance. So it seems I have been "grandfathered in" at least for the time being.
Oh, here is a thought on the rewards. The games stuff where you download and complete a certain tasks seems to work at least for half. I completed one and got credited 50 cents on something that was 100 credits. I suppose the credits are 2 a penny? If anyone can share their experience, I will be most grateful! Thanks!
Edit: I was wrong. It was 84 credits and I ended up with 50 cents.
Does anyone know the difference between the Account Balance category versus the Rewards Balance category on the FreeUp dashboard?
The rewards balance only deals with things you have earned like coupons and things like that. The account balance works on any kind of balance you may have like opening balance when you bought a SIM card and they had a $10 promo, overpayment, etc.
PS. This is my understanding.
Alright, so they fixed the account to renew on the plan I had selected next month. They also said they placed a credit on the account but that did not work out (got $5 vs the $20 that should have applied per their message). Maybe those updates they made are not going so well after all. If they credit the rest great. If not, all good as well.
Edit:
Now only if CellNuvo would just give an update to just close that chapter!
My two $15 US, Canada, Mexico accounts both renewed in the last two days with $15 deducted from rewards on each account. Both accounts are listed and described, as usual, so they're unaltered and grandfathered for now it appears.
I know Freeup had indicated that the available rewards would be transferred to our available balances. For the past couple of days my account shows no rewards and $0 balance. I am hoping this is just temporary until their system updates.
Thanks, LouP. Looking just now, on a browser without cache cleared (or page refreshed), I still see my rewards balance. I saved screenshots a week or so ago as a safety-- but if someone didn't, you might try doing so.
My Reward balance (130 bucks) disappeared Oct 1st but has not been applied to my balance yet.
Same here---no rewards earned or available and zero balance. Odd but normal FU accounting.
ditto
Got this Email from FreeUP : Thank you for reaching out to us with your inquiry. As the FreeUp rewards program is ending, I will confirm that your current balance will be applied as a credit to your bill within the next 2 cycles. We are doing all that we can to make the ending of the program as simple as possible.
2 CYCLES! I thought is was supposed to be done by Oct 3rd??????
This tickles my funny bone.
By "Cycles" I guess CS means billing "cycles". If so, will they take our next payments from our CCs since we have no rewards or balance listed? Got to love simplicity.
Speaking of rewards, I'd like to mention that a generous Nth forum member gifted me the rewards he had earned on his FreeUp free plan since he, given the recent changes to FU plans, said he would never use his rewards. So he has demonstrated not only generosity but has shown that the FreeUp rewards sharing feature of the app is still functioning. Now if I can just find those vanished rewards he shared.
