FreeMii

There is an option to pick the area code. You give them your zip code when you place the order but I don't think that it's considered for assigning a phone number.

tim661taft, if you still have the first SIM FreeMii sent, could you look at the ICCID (SIM card #), and report the first 6 digits here? (The first 6 digits should provide some information about the network provider, but nothing about the individual SIM card identity.) And perhaps if there is any logo or name on the SIM itself other than FreeMii?

I'm curious about it being the 'wrong SIM' for your s9+. As a general rule, I didn't think Verizon discriminated at all for the SIM card type used in different phones. The first digits would show if FreeMi simply sent you a SIM for the wrong network.

It's actually the first 5 for network identity.

89148 - Verizon
89011 - Sprint
89012 - T Mobile
89014 - AT&T

The only one that 'discriminates' is Sprint in that they have several different sim cards to select from depending on the phone you're using.

The "1X or 1xRTT" that tim661taft mentioned showed up on the status bar of his phone would seem to indicate it was a Verizon Sim, but it must have been defective in some way or was somehow borked in the activation process.

Nope, still not activated. Was told the port was tricky and required hand holding and was told it should go through last weekend, but hasn't yet. Last time I contacted customer service I was told that they had a lot of activations so things were taking longer.

Latest from CS "I understand that you would like to be able to use your SIM card, and I apologize for the delay. We've been working with the network provider on the activation. If you prefer, you can request a refund on your membership fee."

My current provider is AT&T prepaid. They aren't exactly a fringe provider.

Looks as if FreeMii is having serious trouble with Verizon activations, which may explain why most people were getting AT&T sims. Maybe FreeMii's relationship with Verizon is a money losing one, unlike, perhaps, its relationship with AT&T. Yet FreeMii did say activation of Verizon sims was in beta, which means there might be problems. At least FreeMii offered a refund without being asked. I'm still wondering what FreeMii's secret sauce is.

The SIM they first sent me is a verizon SIM ICCID 8914 8000 . I have a feeling that SIM is not compatible with my phone cause it shows 1x next to the signal bars. However for shits n giggles I inserted an old un activated verizon SIM into my phone and it showed 4g LTE. SO I have high hopes that the next verizon SIM they are sending me will work.

The 1x question was answered a couple of pages ago:

Thank, sblake5. . Just to be clear, both my suggestion for 6 digits, and yours for 5, are shortcuts that usually work. The complete US identifier is 7 digits. (6 for Verizon) Usually 5 will suffice, but not always. 6 buys a little more surety.

For example, I have SIMs here with first 5 digits of 89011. Looks like Sprint by the 5 digit method.
They're not Sprint: they're AT&T. (Data SIMs issued by FreedomPop or Unreal Mobile, and likely other data lines.)

Sprint, full identifier: 8901120 .... 6:digit 890112 .... 5 digit 89011
FPop/AT&T, full ID . 8901170 .... 6 digit 890117 .... 5 digit 89011

I think, but am not certain, that the 6th digit will remove false results for US issued SIMs without considering the 7th.
That doesn't necessarily hold true if one throws international SIMs into the mix.

The possible issues are that some parts of the identifier are not fixed in length, and not all US carrier codes correspond to the digits in the 5-digit examples, although those are those most common ones...

If someone is interested:
89xxxxx identifies a telecommunications card, and is always the same for all cellular carriers (I think).

xx01xxxx identifies the country of issue, with 01 the standard for a US issuer, although Verizon skips the leading 0. The country identifier can be up to 3 digits.

xxxx410 is a carrier identifier for AT&T, for example, (as 480 is for Verizon), but it's not the only AT&T identifier even if it is the most common. I believe this number is always 3 digits for US networks, but is allowed to be up to 4 digits. So, worst case including international, the complete identifier string looks like it could be a maximum of 9 digits.

Since the country code and carrier code can vary in length, it also introduces the possibility of confusion for international SIMs when we shorten the string, since you can't know for certain exactly where any code segment past the first 2 digits ends. The more digits you have, the lower the chances of false identification.

One source:

My chart is for the four main US carriers and doesn't necessarily apply for MVNOs. Looking at the chart you linked, if the third and fourth digit indicate the country code, the US being 01, how do you explain the 14 in Verizon/s numbers?

FYI he said Verizon skips the leading 0

Got it....

Hello. Just found this forum and thought I'd add my experience so far.

I ordered a Red sim on Friday 9/11 and received it the following Wednesday. The card is all white with no branding on it. Beginning digits are 8914800000....

It's now been 10 calendar days since I started activation with a new number, and still no service. I have inserted the sim in my pixel 3 and gotten "Verizon"in the header along with the 1x signal type and if course no phone# in the about screen.

I've emailed and chatted and phoned with support (phone was either voice mail with David or a message with a human at the Facebook 800#) and last response was the issue had been forwarded to network engineers.

I'm currently on AT&T prepaid which has worked quite well for me. Wondering now if I made a mistake not getting the Blue sim.

Has anyone gotten anything other than Blue activated yet?

sBlake5 has activated on Verizon--see page 8 of this thread. I and others on this thread got the AT&T Sim. Mine activated within minutes and no problems so far with good data speeds.

Activation with Red and Pink networks is manually performed, scheduled between 6pm and midnight due to service interruption.
The way I see it they refer to 72 hours to process the red vzw activation. This means imo 6 hours per evening activating red sims as the orders come in I ordered my sim sept 16 received it sept 22. Submitted the port in activation order on the 23rd. I expect the activation to be completed some time in the week of October 5 through the 10th (Saturday) that’s way more time allowed to activate if not by the 10th I will request a refund.

Update Monday 9/28/20.
I received the Email today Monday 9/28/20 saying my port in activation has ported successfully. It also says it takes osp 15 min to 72 hours to release the number . I am porting in from google voice, hoping it’s complete by this Thursday 10/1/20 usually there’s no issues on gv releasing the number it’s voip takes longer to process I’ll update when the port is truly completed

I submitted my Verizon activation on Sep 8 and was active on Sep 13.

Did you port? I submitted a port in request from gv. In my case this could take a bit longer I keep checking my Email for any updates on the activation

Didn't port - thought getting a new number would be quicker for activation. Started activation on 9/16 and still waiting for that email.

Wow going on 11 days no dice. I been reading posts that they are behind on activation of the vzw (red) sims I know it’s typical for beta as the mention on the freemii website. I’m just allowing up to 15 to 20 days for port in activation if nothing happens by the 12th of October I’ll ask for a purchase refund I’m glad 1 person on here got activated in 5 days
