FreeMii

Always a good question. David Barkley has mentioned technology he created that makes FreeMii possible, but what that technology is remains to be seen. In the meantime, for those of us who paid the $180, that $180 will likely pay for several months of coverage depending on the price FreeMii gets from the carriers. FeeMii has also received some seed money from investors, I believe, which should keep things going for a while. The $50 yearly membership fee that is being waved for now might be reintroduced as well, which would still be a good deal for unlimited t&t and data---$4+ a month, provided the company stays in business a few years. I suspect the success or failure of FreeMii depends on how many people sign up in these early stages and what sort of relationship it has with the carriers.

Yes as is there is no way they can sustain themselves on a one off membership fee or even a $50 annual fee. So there is a big danger this is operating like a pyramid scheme or additional requirements will be added once they hook you. Maybe we will all be swiping for ads in 2021 :silly: Waiting for the rebrand to freenuvo

Then again maybe they are hoping to follow the freedompop path and gain finance along the way in return for showing large subscriber growth with the intention of a sell off to satisfy investors. Not sure if that will work since providing unlimited everything will be expensive and having an upfront cost will put off potential customers.

I think most people at this point are thinking if they can get 6 months out of it then they will be happy to get whatever they can after that. Those joining late may be disappointed.

Well the letter that came with the sim , as you pointed out, says to call David to be guided through the activation process so I called the letter an "activation letter" and David's number the "activation number". I apologize if this was misleading or confusing. I have tried calling that number several times now and it always just goes to a full mailbox so it isn't a very helpful number. Providing a number that is basically out of service is kind of poor, in my opinion. The only reason that I tried to call is I couldn't any activation link from their website. The link from the customer support site is till wrong. Would think they would want to correct that quickly.

I just loaded freemii.com/activate and see the screenshot below. Should be able to put in your email address you ordered with and then put in the sim number and IMEI number. Then you are asked whether you want to keep your phone number or get a new one, I believe.

https://freemii.com/activate

Thanks. I didn't that all yesterday afternoon and got the response that it would take up to 24 hours to activate. Past that now, so that is why I'm contacting customer service but it is after hours now so I will have to wait for tomorrow.

sblake5 When you were waiting for your verizon SIM to activate. Do you remember if your phone had 1x next to the signal bars? or did it Have 4G LTE icon? Mine shows 1x next to the signal bars

I never noticed a 1x but my phone didn't show a phone number in 'about phone' until the activation was completed.

It likely just means that ou are not yet connected to the Verizon LTE network.

"1X or 1xRTT is the slowest and oldest cellular technology used by Verizon Wireless. It basically means the phone isn't connected to the LTE or 3G network."

I was wondering if @scrubulum's got port went through and is now activated, and also wondered if @tim66taft is activated on Verizon sim.

I'm still waiting. I want it activated now now now now lol. I wrote customer support for an update this is what they said....

" Hi Timothy,
Thank you for your patience. Your activation is still processing. We've escalated this to our network engineers.

We'll keep you informed as soon as we hear something back from them.

Hi tim661taft. Are you activating on to Verizon network? Are you porting in a number? If yes to both. It does take quite a while with activating to Verizon network Verizon network is in beta. According to the freemii website.

yea on Verizon. No Porting

It typically takes 3 days according to the website can take up to a week since Verizon is beta I seen a forum poster on here mentioning it took him 4 days to get activated on Verizon

Today I got an update from customer service ....
Hi Tim,
Just a quick status update on the activation: Your device model needs a new Red Network SIM card for Galaxy S9+ (SM-G965U).

We're going to ship you the new SIM card, pre-activated for the new number.

Thank you for your understanding.

Well, sounds like FreeMii mistakenly sent the wrong sim card for your phone. Don't know where you are located, but hopefully you'll be up and running in a few days. At least FreeMii is trying.

When activating the vzw or red sim do you get to pick area code and zip code or do you pick one or the other?

Thank you

I don't think there was an option to pick area code or zip code.

Thank you tim661taft:
We’re you able to get a phone number where you live? Or did you port in a number?

No they sent me a sim that did not work with my Galaxy S9+ SM-G965U. They are currently going to send me a pre activated sim for my phone according to customer support. I'm just waiting for that. I will keep you all updated. I did not choose to port my old number.
