FreedomPop Free Monthly plan back at Target

If I could make a wish...
It would be for their free GSMA offers to be as trustworthy as the Textnow T-mob 99 cent SIM deal has turned out to be.

I've used both for about the same number of years & FP has made for many disappointments vs. Textnow which had none for me that I can even recall.

GSMT 300/1000/100 Walmart plan. Had to manually renew even though the day before it showed as everything fine for subscription auto renewal. Was able to renew on website. So, the email received to the email address associated with this GSMT account re only being able to renew via the FP app doesn't yet apply. Given FP it's anyone's guess if they will get around to making it so before moving on to their next curve ball move.

Only counterpoint re TextNow is that the $5 annual # lock is not available to all/new users and w/o that the # you get from TN is not seen as a "real" phone # by some banks etc. when doing 2FA, receiving confirmation codes etc.

I for one harbor no hard feelings toward FreedomPop. Like all who have posted on this topic thread, I have learned over an extended period of time how they operate, but yet I have chosen to continue playing the "free" game with them.

So, let the games continue!

Don't forget:

Wow, so automatic $10 if you get close to your limit! I turned off my data, so I think I am safe. No idea why I am using up 'minutes' and 'texts' as the phone is not even turned on much of the time and I definitely do not receive any calls or texts on it.

My accounts have debit cards attached to them that FP couldn't possible get 10ยข (much less $10) if they tried. Exhausted prepaid debit cards. That being said, I've never come close to using the allotment of any of the three so its never been an issue.

@SeanW
@PEW

PEW, your screenshot seems to indicate the GSMT 300/1000/100mb "Walmart" plan
VS.
SeanW GSMA 100/100/100 Target & later Walmart plan.

I don't see the wording SeanW posted anywhere on the GSMT account I manage.

If anyone with a GSMT 300/1000/100 plan can see the wording that SeanW posted I'd like to hear about it or see a screenshot.

In the same vein as sblake5 I use a virtual CC with a few dollar limit on it to minimize the hit from any FP shenanigans.

FP deleted my credit card so I had to re-enter to 'pay' for next month. BTW, looks like there's a $3 fee to have auto-renewal.

You would think this important part should be shown on the Plans page. However, the texts are buried in the Terms and Conditions. Most people will not see it because very few will actually read all 100 pages. @SeanW Thanks for alerting us!

"M. Free Plans. In some cases, we may offer a promotional Free Plan. Free Plans include any plan which has a $0.00 per month monthly renewal cost, including those which may also be subject to the Maintenance Fee described above. Free Plans are limited to one per household. If you enroll a line into a Free Plan, you may receive a limited quantity of voice minutes, text messages, and/or mobile data for a given billing period, which is typically a thirty day cycle. By enrolling in a Free Plan, you are agreeing to be automatically upgraded to our $10 monthly plan and charged if at any point you reach the voice, messaging or data balance of that plan. You must manually renew a Free Plan every thirty days in order to maintain free services for the following thirty day cycle. Alternatively, you may opt to enroll in Safety Mode for $3.00 per month to maintain the Free Plan each month. If you purchase the Safety Mode option, you will a) be automatically charged $3.00 per month; b) no longer need to manually renew your plan every month; and c) will not be automatically upgraded to our $10 plan if you reach the voice, messaging, or data balance of your plan; rather, your services will be suspended and you will be able to manually purchase a paid service add-on or simply wait until your plan renews."

As long as I can have some little bit of GSMA for free - I'll take it.
If they charge me any amount, I'll know it & cancel ASAP.

$10/month for GSMA is not any real bargain - if I must pay for it, I'll go back to Redpocket & get their 360 day/$60 deal.

GSMT is pretty much useless here, but I do have a Textnow free deal that is either good for wifi calling at home or if I go far enough away from home to get coverage.

Does FP own Redpocket? LOL

Vice-versa, I think...

T&C are a moving target with FP.
I can't find any way to sign up / pay for that supposed "safety mode" auto renewal even if I wanted to.

Yes the removing of CC info requiring to re-add every month has been happening for the past 2-3 months for most FP GSMT (&A) free plan accounts.

The GSMT account I manage did use up all 100mb data recently but no $10 charge was attempted AFAI can tell.

Just curious SeanW since I don't have a 100/100/100 plan to check for reference:

Is that a screenshot of a T&C page?
Or
A screenshot from one of the account management pages on website UI?
Or
Account management page within the FP app?

Here"s my source Redrotors:

Ahhh, the help pages. :bulb:
Thanks.
Didn't think of that since my experience has been that they are more the misleading pages

No way to "change plan" to the $3 safety mode that I can see for the GSMT 300/1000/100 plan.

On the page you reference under "Will my plan upgrade if I'm on a free subscription?" the link in the sentence "If you wish to stop automatic top-up, find out how here" leads to a login page for some "app.hubspot" login page, IDK, maybe for the FP app?

Under "Automatic Plan Upgrade for Premium SIMs Purchased from Target/Walmart" it specifically calls out the 100/100/100 plan. The method linked to in the sentence
"If you prefer to manage your minutes, texts, and data manually, please consider subscribing to our Safety Mode Plan for only $3. Click here to learn how to subscribe."
doesn't show the safety mode option in a 300/1000/100 account as described.

Only plan change options currently are:
$19.98 - 30 Day- Unlimited Everything (4GB@High Speed)

$19.98 - 90 Day- Unlimited Everything (1GB@High Speed)

$9.98 - 30 Day- Unlimited Everything (1.5GB@High Speed)

Only addon options currently are:
$15.00 - 1 GB Data Top Up
$2.00 - 100 MB Data Top Up
$5.00 - 250 MB Data Top Up

$5.00 - 250 Messages Top Up
$2.00 - 100 Messages Top Up
$5.00 - 500 Messages Top Up

$10.00 - 1000 Minutes Top Up
$2.00 - 100 Minutes Top Up
$5.00 - 500 Minutes Top Up

I think I managed to re-enable automated renewal. I had to check a box to enable automated payments with an account associated with link.com, which I associated with an email address that I don't use much and a privacy.com virtual card with a $1 limit.

Check it later. When you manually renew through the app and then go check your account on the browser UI, it appears that automatic payment is active. A couple hours later, it will again show as inactive. At least, that has been my experience.

Similar to sblake5 but I'm pretty sure it took a few days for FP to purge my CC thus knocking out autopay and go back to displaying red error message to add a form of payment. This is with the 300/1000/100 GSMT free plan.

I also tried this a day or two before renewal and everything showed green including the day it was due to renew but the line never auto-renewed and displayed red add a form of payment message the next day.

On the Target 100/100/100 plan, there is no red error message. "Make A Payment" is grayed out and and under "Payment Information" and "Subscription", Automatic Payments shows 'Inactive' and both Plan Payment and Payment Method show "NONE'.

Yep, I spoke too soon. My account's autorenewal status has reverted back to inactive.

At least the autorenewal on my free GSMT line that is administered through the RedPocket portal is still working.
