"Visible"comes into Focus

Has anyone recently had issues activating a SIM during the 30-60 day timeframe after purchase? I recently had multiple issues doing that, involving extra charges (for which I have asked for a refund) and the line initially not working for voice.

I just made a minor discovery. I had always thought that in order to use Visible on iPhone, you had to have an iPhone 6 or later PLUS the phone has to be running IOS 12 or later. I just discovered, however, that an iPhone SE running IOS 11.4.1 (the very last iteration of IOS 11) works on Visible. I also know for certain that an iPhone 6s running IOS 11.2.6 does not work.

The only versions between 11.4.1 and 11.2.6 are 11.3, 11.3.1, and 11.4. If anyone here can test, please post your results!

There indeed is a major issue when one tries to activate service during the 30-60 day time frame. Basically, Visible's activation and billing system wipes out your referral or first-time customer discount. If you wait to the 2nd month, Visible's system defaults to a setting where it thinks that you need to pay the full $40 undiscounted amount. So, after paying $5 initially with a referral, Visible will charge you an extra $35 upon activation.

In my last case, I had my payment set to a one-time use card, so that transaction failed; I then got on a chat with their CS, where we worked out a resolution - I would add a new credit card and let it be charged $35, and then he would elevate the issue to a supervisor to process a $35 refund. I also told him in no uncertain terms that I will challenge the charge with my bank if the refund isn't issued. Suffice to say, this is a major hassle.

There is another wrinkle to this, involving ports that you start before 30 days but don't get completed until after 30 days - an example is when you are porting from a carrier whose port-out PINs are only good for a set period but by the time you actually activate, that PIN has expired. You have to get a new PIN from your old carrier, and then there is a process to re-submit the new PIN to Visible, but if you go through a scenario where you begin activation on day 28 but don't submit the new valid PIN until day 34, there seem to be other glitches. I'm going to try to replicate that again and see if I experience the same issues.

Obviously, this kind of experimentation shouldn't be done with your main number!

PSA -

  • Check your Visible account(s), appears there is a hack/security breach.
  • At a min. change your password & use a form of payment you can limit, control, cancel easily. If you used the same password elsewhere change them (to unique ones) also.

Thanks for the PSA. All my accounts are linked to privacy.com virtual cards. I strongly suggest that as standard operating procedure anyway, mainly to prevent Visible from improperly charging for swaps. The suggestion to change your Visible password won't work because the function is disabled, possibly by Visible as a stopgap measure against the hackers.

I did receive a strange email a few days ago on one of the accounts indicating that I was about to get a shipment, but there was no order number or info on what I was getting. I didn't see a charge being declined on my privacy.com account either. I later received an email from Visible clarifying that the email was a mistake. Some posters on Reddit are also positing that the issues are linked.

Yes, privacy.com is one of ways I was referring to when recommending a form of payment you can control.
A few more tidbits here re the hack effects some are dealing with and visible's attempts to verify accounts.

Password resetting is back online. I just reset mine for my only account in which I currently have a number that I care about.

New swap phone - Moto G Pure
Looks decent for a swap. Not sure if it will be locked or not. If locked it requires 60 days on the network.

For a new customer porting in is the cost of 2 months service on Visible going to be $25 x 2 = $50 or is it still possible to get the first month for $5 with a referral code so 2 mo. = $30?

First month service is still $5 if you use a referral code upon ordering. You can also make the 2nd month $5 by self-referring to start up another line; otherwise the 2nd month is $25 using party-pay.

If you need a referral code, please look at the referrals thread here. I'm going to post my own referral code.

Phone came unlocked by the way.

This must be an accident. I can't fathom why Visible would consciously do this. There's going to be a run on these like the one on the Moto E6 2 years ago. I suggest people act quickly if you want one.

New swap phone

Visible Midnight. Looks like a slightly modified zte a11 prime. Comes with a nimble wireless charger which is nice.

Probably locked down. I've ordered one and will report back.

The wireless charger that comes with the Midnjght is only nice if it's Qi compatible with other phones.

Yes it is a qi charger by nimble. Nice addition.

Just got mine. It is pretty much a moto g pure. Same screen. Roughly the same spec sheet. Slightly different styling on the sides and back. The midnight has a slightly better chip from benchmarks by like 10% and has wireless charging. The moto feels a little better built as there is a little give to the back of the midnight but it isn't too bad. But both feel like budget phones anyway. Decent for $5.

I put a tracfone tmobile sim in there and it works without any tweaks. Good signal.

There is visible branding like the box, wallpaper and splash screen but it looks okay. No other bloat.

A good alternative to the moto g pure. I think I might prefer the midnight overall.

Any idea as to band compatibility with AT&T & T-mo. Maybe I should ask what bands it is missing?

I've seen 2, 12, 13 and 66 so far. Verizon works too. I don't know how to bring up a comprehensive list of what bands it does have.

Phone is by wingtech which I believe tmobile also uses for their revvl line.
