Hot Deals - Mobile

I recall TF had service on all 3 major networks before the VZW acquisition. Not sure why they're restarting T-Mobile based service now.

Yes, they did. But now activating on AT&T is like pulling teeth, and you need to have an older SIM kit with an AT&T SIM card already available, and once activated, TF will bug you to switch to Vzw.

Not to be a total bore, but...
VZ signal around here is very flaky to the point that we also have to keep some AT&T ability.
When VZ does actually work, the total of $12.50/month it costs us for 2 lines with US Mobile is a great value (used for T&T only).

When VZ refuses to work, it has been well worth the $60 cost to get RP GSMA for my partner, and even with that she sometimes needs to get 1/2 way home before it gets any signal in 1 exact spot.

Paying that $60/360 days to avoid any/all tf (or other) hassles will remain for us until/unless some cheaper GSMA may come around.

As I see it - tf = a root canal job...best avoided totally unless it gets to be a life/death situation.

Yeah, I guess despite being in the "TF customer disservice is a nightmare" camp I must be a glutton for punishment

Did get a few new iPhone SE's from that deal about 10 posts up, as long as they unlock as they should in about a month I might subtract a point from the negative column.

The above is a terrific deal to begin with, but if this "Slick Deals" poster's comments are accurate, it makes it even better:

Samsung Galaxy S24 256GB $169
requires trade-in ($169 above assumes $5 trade-in value phone, YMMV.
(+ your taxes on $800)**see edit below
unlock after 60 days service (service cost inc. in $169 above)

https://www.spectrum.com/mobile/products/phones/detail.html?productName=galaxy-s24-samsung&colorName=Onyx%20Black

If you have Spectrum internet or phone service this seems like a decent deal for a new preorder flagship.
Credit of $700 if you trade-in a phone + an additional $x for the trade-in phone.
Phone must be on their trade-in list.

The wording on the page is a bit misleading as it seems it is not "up to" $700, it is $700 + a $x value for the trade in phone as long as the phone is on their trade-in list.

In addition to the S24 the offer also applies to + & ultra models.
All include the preorder double storage offer (shows as a $60 credit off MSRP of $860 in checkout details in the case of S24).

Unlock after 60 days active service.

So an S24 256gb for $800 (+ tax) -$700 -$7 (free Visible Moto Pure trade-in in this example) = $93 (+ tax on $800 ** see edit below **, YMMV)
Required activation fee & service (on the by the gig plan) until unlock eligible $74 if you have to pay for 3 months. If lucky maybe $20 less if you get away with 2 months.

** see edit below**, YMMV $167 before tax, ~$250 (on the high end) after depending on your taxes.
For me, $230 including taxes & 3 mo. by the gig service plan.

A note re the by the gig plan. Plan pricing is changing.
Currently $14/mo. inc. taxes.
The $14 plan includes 1 GB & charges $14 per GB (or any part of) for additional data.
Effective Jan. 31st the plan will be $20 and $5 per GB (or any part of) after the first GB.

There is an SD thread going on the deal.

**ETA -
A bit of a bonus is that they did actually refund taxes on the trade in value.

Final totals in my case are/should be - S24 256GB device cost (inc. residual tax) $100.53 + $74 in activation and 3 mo. service cost until 60 day passes to unlock = $174.53 total.

They did not refund to the original payment method and instead posted a credit to the Spectrum account. This necessitated a chat to have it sent back to me. An inconvenience, yes, but this was actually to my advantage because before calling them I changed my form of payment to my debit card thus allowing me to capture the full ($9) credit card cash back instead of losing $8 of it. I guess you could say $166.53 total?
Only thing left to do is change back to CC from debit after the credit posts to my checking account.

It is a really, really nice phone with waaay too much bloatware that took half a day to deal with (thank you XDA). The screen gets nice and bright, easy to read in full sun. The camera is the best I've ever experienced on a phone & battery life seems very promising. Promised 7 years of updates is great since the person getting this phone after unlock will be upgrading from a galaxy S8 (so, good until S31?).
Almost regretting not getting a second one  (the double storage deal is over...I do not need another phone, I do not need another phone... I do not...)

Moto razr+ "free" with trade in if you're a Spectrum customer. In store for instant credit (& YMMV tax on $0 = 0).

https://www.spectrum.com/mobile/products/phones/detail.html/?productName=motorola-razr-plus-motorola&colorName=Infinite%20Black

Similar to S24 deal above.
In this case an $800 credit for trading in a phone + value of trade-in.
Unlock after 60 days.
You will pay activation ($20) + 3 mo. service if you just want to buy/unlock/cancel.

Might be fun to play around with a folding screen flip that was released mid 2023.
Seems the phone gets reasonably positive reviews (mediocre camera, just ok battery life seem to be the main negatives).
Open box and like new used ones seem to fetch ~ $400 so no loss if you hate it.

Hello PEW.
Thanks for this info.
(Not AT&T based so not useful for me...)

It may be good to have a look at this thread:

I found the reply by markfenix to be quite interesting.

Did you notice that they no longer offer an extra 6 months at no extra cost like they once did? $40 got you a year then. So, $20 for 6 months is really the same rate.

Trial promo: 35GB of high speed data per month for 90 days @ $10 per month.
(unlimited data @ 512kbs after 35GB high speed allotment)

Got this for a little over $42.50 plus taxes. (Phone free with purchase of Silver Unlimited plan = $42.50 with auto pay.)
Paid for first month which included free phone, then waited another 30 days and phone automatically unlocked.

I got 2 back about 3-4 mo. ago when the deal was first offered.

Got caught up in the failed to auto unlock fiasco which delayed the sim unlock by a week or a few but all is well re that now.

I am admittedly not a power user (still judiciously using a moto e6 for one line & an S24 on another so I'm somewhat aware of performance ranges) but I find it a pretty decent phone that doesn't choke on most of what I throw at it.

Very long SD thread on the deal/phone:

Total Wireless (excerpt from PrepaidCompare.net)

Samsung A54 5G free with port-in, new $65 plan activation and ID verification ($279.99 unactivated).
Motorola Edge 5G 2024 free with port-in, new $65 plan activation and ID verification ($249.99 unactivated).
Samsung A15 5G free with port-in, new $55 plan activation and ID verification ($149.99 unactivated).
Motorola G Power 5G 2024 free with port-in, new $55 plan activation and ID verification ($149.99 unactivated).

I found out that a Google Voice number works for the port-in (Google charges $3)
The phones automatically unlock after 60 days, and you only have to pay for the first month plan.
I'm waffling on getting one of these phones because of the ID Verification required thru Veriff (snap shot of an ID document and a selfie)

Can anyone make a case for why you'd bother with choosing the Samsung A15 / Moto G power 2024 vs. the A54 / Edge 2024?

They seem like they are the obvious choice for the one time $10 difference in required plan if you are just hit and run for unlocked phone after 60 days.

Possible they have improved their scanning AI or maybe even use a different company now but speaking from a friend's experience a while back - "selfie" and ID pic were a very cute pup and drivers license left nothing unaltered (#'s, address, scan bar). Didn't seem to make a difference. Don't know if they actually verify anything against public databases. YMMV

1 Year @ $50 for Data only plan.
10GB of Premium High-Speed 5G & 4G LTE Data per line, per month, then data speeds reduced
Liberty Wireless uses T-Mobile Network
(speeds are throttled to 512 Kbps after high-speed data is consumed, per Reddit poster who recently called their support for info)

Wow, so great to see low cost plans like these. One could forgo a voice plan and use this with Google Voice for a yearly $50 cell phone bill!
