Hot Deals - General

Looks like a great phone to use for FreeUp + Freedompop LTE SIM combo... $99 now.

Of note:

  • Only 720 across (so an extra long 720p screen, strange 19:9 ratio)
  • Support 5V/2A charging in 2.4 hours, that's pretty quick for a 4000mAh battery.

Quite the deal. ATT locked phones work on ATT mvnos.
They go in and out of stock on motorola.com so keep checking if they are out of stock. Ebay is sold out.

Flossy real review

Worked for me-- thanks!

Maybe a hot deal for winter. Bigger headed people might find it too small for them. Might make for a heady gift. Amazon Prime deal ends soon.

"A great companion in bathroom, boat, kitchen, bathtub, poolside, car, beach, park, office, conference room and much more!" ***BATHTUB ???

LINK Edited.

Here is an even lower cost option - not quite as warming, but then again one may always add a hat over it:

(Just FYI, with amazon links, everything including and after the /ref= is used for tracking purposes only.)

Hard to go wrong with discounted ebat gift cards... Samsung Pay required.

Google Home Mini for $1

Mine showed up, today, and I love it!

I believe the deal is still available, too.

Chelle, what do you do with the Google Home Mini? It's a great deal, if I could figure out why I want it.....

You can use it to control smart home devices like plugs, lights, cameras, video doorbells, and thermostats.

You can also use it to do anything your phone will do when you say, "Hey Google" or "Okay Google".

You can even make calls with it.

You can control your Chromecast or Roku with it. Ask what the weather forecast is. Really, just about anything.

"Hey Google, play Elementary on Hulu." It'll turn on the TV, switch it to the correct HDMI port, start Hulu, and play the next episode of Elementary.

One you get used to it, you use it for everything.

I'm ambidextrous. I use Alexa and Google Home.

Perhaps lukewarm....
I noticed the FreedomPop preloaded SIM, 12 months/1GB, is on sale at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target for $39.99. I think this is the cheapest it's been other than a tie-in with an Ebay discount code.
These don't have to activated immediately. If you're planning on buying and stashing away for a while, I'd recommend an in-store pickup at BB or Target if possible, where you can confirm that the card has been scanned into the system. Otherwise, you run a risk of finding out after any return period that the SIM wasn't properly scanned. Even if you activate within the return period, activate the SIM before breaking the seal on the SIM package.

Thanks for fueling my curiosity KentE !!

I wanted to see whatever details I could about that deal, so looked around....
Didn't find much - still wondering if it uses AT&T & still figuring it uses VOIP for calls, but here is what stopped me:

I have very seldom seen reviews as bad as that got - wow.

Thought maybe FP had made a quantum leap into cellular goodness...NOT !!

Best Wishes to All this holiday season.

Yes to AT&T and VoIP. But, it's good AT&T data access, and Chelle has reported that it seems to roam in some locations, too. (Something you seldom see with MVNOs)
The reviews are bad because it's FreedomPop, known for mysterious charges and less-than-stellar customer service. This is a prepaid SIM purchased from a 3rd party vendor, though, and you don't need to put a Credit Card (or any payment source, or identifying personal information) on file. It's low risk.
Probably still not smart for you, Et_Z, as you're more interested in calling than data. But for someone who has a sufficient calling plan, but needs data access.....

Happy Holidays, Et_Z!

Thanks KentE !!
Always a pleasure connecting with you.

I wasn't really considering tossing any $$ in the FP direction for all the reasons you listed so well.
You are being more kind that I would be in saying 'less-than-stellar customer service' - I'd have said 'totally lacking'.

Having tried their stuff before & gotten well singed around the edges, it would take some sort of miraculous improvement, then heralded by all & sundry to happen before I might risk it again.

For those in great signal areas though - this may be a deal & a half !!

PayPal is offering a $5 discount on any purchase today only.
I just used it on a $15 purchase and it went through with no problem.

Then use chip unlock to use as GSM phone?

Of course, you could always just pay the $35/mo with CN.

64gb Moto G6 for $199, Prime members only. This is very HOT, IMHO!
