Now that CN no longer has anything to do with cell phone service, according to the email, not to mention anything to do with fixing CN users dysfunctional phones, and will now just reward people for watching ads on their phones and transfer those rewards as money to pay for whatever a person chooses, perhaps future posts about CN should be placed in the general category or some other category rather than "telecom".
Props, lsamorph, your point raises two key questions. (P.S. Happy Thanksgiving all!)
[ol][li]the word Cell in the company name...not so good, moreso if they hope their future reputation speaks to new successes that far outweigh the cell weirdness (may it R.I.P.)
[li]the email itself[/ol]Listen. The app already has our email address. Anybody here use the Ibotta, Shopkick, etc apps? When we cash out with them, it's an email with a code. Nothing having to do with my Walmart.com or BestBuy.com account number. Same as when I just buy an airtime card at the grocery store -- it's a code (behind a scratchoff) for me to know, not an account number for the (grocery store) facillitator of the transaction to know.
Anybody wanna guess the likelihood that CellNUVO hasn't talked to any of these entities (MVNOs, Amazon, etc) yet? Cuz they woulda told him the gist of the above paragraph. Sorry.
Interesting indeed.
Having heard exactly nothing from cn I just check that phone every now & then to see if its dead or alive...
1st it was dead, then after an update it came back with a 331-xxx-xxxx number, then it was off a bit later, then back with the original number - and now it is just plain dead & useless.
I've got 77 gold according to the just updated app - but the 'store' contains...nothing.
Really I'm not feeling too bruised up by this because I took on that account mostly as a curiosity & experiment to see if'n there's likely to be any such a thing as truly free services;
Looks like the answer to that is - no.
The cn site no longer has any sort of log-in for existing users that I could find either.
My only lingering concern is whether that phone is released now, or not - just in case I want to put it onto the Twigby services at some point.
I've checked it on Twigby, Ting and Tello and all urge me to get services, so it looks like it is freed from cn already.
I see the rates at Tello now start at $5 & for $15 there is unlimited - trouble (for us) is that they do not have the Verizon fallback that Twigby has, which would very severely limit its usability around here.
Speaking of carriers, it amazes me that nobody here posts much about Twigby ??
Our services thus far with them have been superbly good & cheap as well.
Agreed! Perhaps Twigby doesn't get much discussion because it just does what it's supposed to do: deliver consistently reliable cell service, with outstanding customer service, for reasonable prices (unlike what unfortunately seems to be the case at CellNUVO).
" because it just does what it's supposed to do: deliver consistently reliable cell service"---you said it. TPO is in the same wonderful boat. If it's working well, mums the word. This situation reminds me of the Maytag TV washing machine commercials of the past, where the all too familiar Maytag repairman is always seen sitting around a warehouse napping because he has nothing to do because Maytag washing machines never need repairing.
