I fear this swap program won't last very long at all. Slickdeals is buzzing with the A7 swap already and that isn't even that great a deal. It is a nice phone but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it (It does actually sell for $49 without the swap).
[strike]It is out of stock already. Visible will be upset.[/strike] Edit No my computer is playing tricks with me it is back.
I really wanted to get in on the Blade 10. Looks like that's just not going to happen. Is the A7 worth trading for, if it's going to be a primary Visible phone for a while? Or does it matter what I'm trading. At present, it'll be my AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge.
It is worth it and even has the Chelle seal of approval. But I wouldn't trade in something valuable like a s7 edge unless it is pretty much on its last legs. You can trade in any old piece of junk and they will accept it as long as it isn't compatible and turns on. Think a $5-10 phone. They are probably just recycled.
There are new ones to be added to the swap program coming end of May apparently. Not sure what brand/model so would be a risk but they may have better ones. Or not.
I agree that the S7 Edge is too far up the food chain for a swap.
I've been cleaning out the junk drawer for my swaps. They meet all the requirements but I'd never use them again. (i.e., 4g but not LTE, etc.)
The A7 has bands 2 & 4, which is all that my T-Mobile phones ever use around here. It's missing band 12 but would still be okay for T-Mobile and AT&T.
I don't recall the various tweaks that are required because I'm staying with Visible and didn't need to make any changes, but the A7 is even a very acceptable WiFi phablet, with its 6.1" display.
I would say that this is absolutely the case. It all depends on what you have to offer Visible. There's no reason not to trade in an obsolete and/or non-working phone phone in exchange for one that's new and working, even if what you get may have limited carrier compatibility.
My next phone I'll swap is a Galaxy SIII mini unlocked overseas version that doesn't work on any US carrier anymore, with a very weak battery and tendency to overheat.
Honestly, I think Visible cares much more about getting "likely suspects" to give Visible a real try, than they do about the trade-ins, or even the swap-available phones. With a very limited range of compatible phones, the swap offer makes it easy to try Visible.
I haven't tried it with Visible because I vaguely remember Verizon being pretty ticky about the use of these phones on their network outside of Verizon prepaid.
The CDMA radio provisions before the LTE and Verizon/Visible bumps the $40 E4 off the network. Of course, as you know, to use it on ATT and TMo which does not have built in hotspot ability, some ADB tweaks need to be made.
I have had great luck using the $40 E4 on ATT and TMo - except that its hotspot is very unreliable.
Truth be told I never updated the firmware update hoping a root method would be found eventually. I think it's been over 2 years I have been postponing the firmware update that way.
Now my google play store refuses to update at all.
Would you be able to tell me which system update you're currently on and whether it continues to work unlocked on ATT and TMo?
We just left home a few hours ago and won't be back for a week-- so I won't be able to check until then.
I let it pick up security updates, though, so it should be on the latest update.
It's also the phone that we use as our home internet connection ever since we semi retired my old Blu Life One X. So it's odd that you have hotspot trouble with yours. Ours stays turned on 24/7 with no tweaks nor modifications. We just popped in the T-Mobile SIM and let 'er go.
Since it has a removable battery it's a good choice for this purpose since it stays plugged in all the time. Once the battery swells it'll be easy to replace it.
We will be leaving for camping tomorrow as well on our 4x4 dually with a comfortable wide load. Once the kids grow up, we will sell the farm and stay in a RV full time or that's the plan.
I will continue to access the internet the same because my internet is all LTE and it gets real cold in the evening in the mountains.
We're frequent and avid campers, as well, and thanks to forums like these we tend to be the most connected campers anywhere we go, whether it's desert or mountains.
