Ting hotspot offer, $25/mo for 30GB

(Thanks to PrepaidCompare.net for posting this...)

This Ting offer is outside of their usual range. $25/mo for 30GB for a hardware hotspot on the Sprint network sounds pretty good. Sounds like they don't have the physical hotspot devices available quite yet, but they're doing a pre-order thing.

The only catch I see so far is that you need to have a standard Ting phone plan as a pre-condition. If you don't already have a Ting line, that would raise your effective monthly cost by at least $6 (Ting's basic line charge.)

There's a FAQ linked from that page, and a link to to info about the Franklin R850 hotspot. You can not supply your own hotspot device.

It's an excellent step in the right direction.

The requirement to have a standard line with them is a stumbling block, for me, but they're getting ever closer to getting some of my money.

Our 4gCommunity hotspots show as eligible for activation on various IMEI checkers. I wonder if Ting would allow those or require purchasing another device?

It appears that you can't bring your own hotspot.
From the FAQ at https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022158973-Franklin-R850-30GB-Mobile-Hotspot-FAQs

"Can I use my own device?

No, these devices have been specifically set up to work with this data offer."

I'm not sure what special setup might be involved, however. It looks like the cost for the unit is only $25, which is very reasonable.
