Question, Is Richard Spencer, speaking at the University of Gainesville, Fl. something we should protect as free speech? UF is a public University.
Are our tax dollars supporting his platform?
Who invited him? is he getting paid to speak?
Public university so free speech there is protected by the constitution.
Don't know who invited him. I read he is paying $10k to rent the hall. UF is paying $500k for security.
Who effectively pays for that $500k? I guess whoever pays for the education at UF.
That $500k is being spent to separate the protesters from the white supremacists, which is necessary. Seeing they are reacting to the white supremacists presence, I think causing that money to be spent is justifiable. Of course, I'd rather not have to pay anything but that's the situation other people put you in sometimes.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'm not so sure. LOL at myself
Listening to y'all go back and forth about trolls, I had to go look up the definition of an internet troll
Is that sort of what Richard Spencer is?
Free speech on the internet, flaming , unacceptable behaviors, mods walking a delicate line, internet bullying,
a bunch of fascinating issues as old as public discourse being worked out again.
All I know is that when I was in Myanmar, access and the right to read or post to forums like this was not available, unless you were a world class hacker.
Hmmmm....
Some folks have too much time with nothing better to do ??
PS:
I've always viewed one-word replies in forum threads as being an abusive misuse of space & bandwidth - even just a single word that is highly pertinent as a reply can easily be made into a full, decent sentence to show proper regard of the forum operator & members; but that's just my 2.5 cents.
(Any less - better get a job & pay for some hosting to make a silly forum of one's own.)
