$5/mo "Standby plan"
Interesting pointer. Pew, thanks.
Posted below that video:
If you already have Starlink Residential service, they are running a promotion right now where they will give you the mini for free and you just have to pay for Standby Mode at $5 a month. If you aren’t a residential customer, then you do have to purchase the mini (which is selling for it’s lowest price ever) and pay for one month of at least 50GB high speed service…after that you can switch to the $5 a Month Standby Mode.
So I looked around a bit, and=>
Mini $229 at HD or 'worstbuy' then add the $80 for the 1st month...so, over $300 and THEN maybe get the $5/month deal - if those are the correct numbers then the startup cost changes the overall value a lot.
Reinforces how fortunate we are to have service with US Mobile !!
Also...
No one is sure if there is a limit to the number of consecutive months on standby. In other words, if you'll need to pay for a full plan month after 11 or 12 months on this $5/mo. paid standby plan
There are cheaper than $80 mo. plans with the * that they may not be available in all areas.
Residential 100 mbs plan is $40/mo.
There is a $50 "roam tier" plan and a $10 (10 gb/mo. +$2 gb over 10) IIRC the $10 may be for retention or a reactivation incentive and not new customers.
If you already have starlink services it is an interesting option. If you don't then it would require a pretty specific need to justify the cost. If you're just a geek with ~$400 to burn to fool around with it for a year, well, enjoy I guess ![]()
As an aside I recently used the availability of the starlink $40 residential plan to get home internet price reduction for an elderly relative who was being raked over the coals by the only local provider. They looked at usage & basically agreed to provide similar speed for the "assist" type rate they usually provide for various govt. assistance / welfare program recipients. Neither her nor her housemate need more than 100 mbs for anything that they do.
