Personally, I'd interact with CS to have them manually renew the line for you (or wait out the current glitch) and verify it is working.
I feel that attempting to port out an inactive/expired/suspended FP line is fraught with pitfalls and probable fail.
The (hopefully only) 10 min. you spend now may well save you headaches and much more time later.
To me that seems the path of least resistance with best likelihood of success.
Yes - thanks Again Redrotors.
Spent 10+ minutes with a rep & got it renewed, then...
Tried turning off their port blocker in the app - which then logged me out every time !!
Then tried it at the site & got only this far:
"Email Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Verification
Please enter your email verification PIN to proceed."
Tried it 5 times with a new email each time - but the 'confirm' button does=>
NOTHING.
Grrrrrrr. So I called again & ooopsy, their formerly 24 hour support is now 9-5.
Truly I have come to despise FP over time, and this all just serves to solidify that position.
I never knew FP to have 24 hr. CS support but I may be a relative newcomer vs. you and others here.
Those CS hours are pacific time to boot.
I always wondered if Red Pocket CS could help with FP accounts but never tried.
You probably will need them to manually unblock the line and do whatever else along with perhaps having them confirm port out information to give the "winning" carrier.
OR
Roll the dice and give USM the info and maybe the FP port blocker is just feel good BS and it goes through. If going this route I'd try it early in the week, weekday evening or at least in AM a few hours before FP CS opens so that if the port doesn't complete in an hour or two you can get yourself, USM and FP on a 3 way call and get it resolved right there and then. I had to do this with Redpocket (loser) and a TF brand (winner) a few years ago on a line I manage for a family member. RP was being a real PITA releasing the line but the TF porting dept. agent was having none of it and straightened RP up in a very firm but businesslike manner. I think it's possibly the only thing TF that has ever impressed me.
Hello & Thanks Again Redrotors.
I used the double-be-damned fp chat today, had more of my time wasted via their upsell baloney, BUT=>
Port blocker now shows as being off & I have the needed details for the port out. (acc't # & PIN)
Phew.
USM SIM is 'sposed to arrive tomorrow & I simply cannot get FREE of fp soon enough !!!
Too many hassles just trying to keep that 'free' line alive - and taking into account all the time & work wasted on it - fp OWES ME COMPENSATION - HAH !!
We'll then have 2 VZ lines & 1 AT&T (darkstar BF deal) line with them.
USM really puts so many other providers to shame as I see it.
Here it is:
limited time offer
Black Friday 2024
FREE*
$10/mo after first month
2 GB Premium Data per month
Unlimited Talk & Text
Priority Data on Warp and Dark Star included
5G C-Band
$2 per Network Transfer
*Must have at least one other active line
Yes, that was the free month offer I saw.
Wasn't sure if there was another darkstar specific offer.
I was wondering if a self referral would be a better deal but but I guess that the light plan at annual rate of $96 wouldn't qualify (must spend $100).
I'm not sure that the light plan qualifies at all for referrals $?
Paying monthly @ $10/mo. would be $120-$25 ea. to referer & referee=$70, will only fully pay out after 10th paid month if light plan qualifies. I can't see the referral condition details since I don't have an account.
If my scenario is allowed then it would of course mean having two accounts to manage vs. all lines on one account.
By comparison to ALL other cellular providers we've ever used, USM has thus far been the very best.
Getting FREE of fp was a real hassle - a total PITA time waster to get the needed info, have them release their stupid 'port locker' THREE times before that stuck - and finally having to poke 'em to release that number manually.
FP is total suckage IMO.
So:
I missed getting the US Mobile BF offer - but $96/year is a very good deal.
FP is not for those whom do not have the patience or time to deal with them. Unless this present problem with renewing is merely a precursor to shutting down the free plans, I can deal with them until they fix it. If they don't.....life goes on.
Just a thought
If you had to get USM CS or porting department involved (3 way call??) to wrestle the # away from FP maybe they'd vouch for a BF free month even though you went a bit early?
Worth a try maybe? I'm just not sure if I'd ask now or wait until the deal is live (29th IIRC) to make the request. Probably when it's live since I'm not sure they could give you a free month now, may only be able to add a note to your account about your original intentions.
Greetings Redrotors.
I have too much needing my attention presently to work at getting an extra $8 month out of US Mobile, especially after getting so much courteous & willing help from them in ditching fp.
Being able to simply hand her phone back to her, all ready for all daily uses has cut me free from the fp demands - which to me is a great gift !!
Hello SBlake & thanks for replying here.
My (mostly retired from now) occupation has been as a time billing technician for decades.
Thus I always remember that things which eat up a person's time & life indiscriminately minus compensations are bad in many, many ways.
As for patience - I've got loads of it - and also a watchful eye for clear signs of deviousness and/or dishonesty over time, so...
Fp renewals have always stated a date, BUT never could be done 'till the next day;
They disabled the ability to renew via their site;
Their app became super-fussy i.e. of our 4 cellular phones only 1 could do it & since their latest 'update' that 1 no longer could do it either;
Their 'port blocker' used to work with just a click, but now the ONLY way to get it shut off is via CS & even after that it self-resets to blocking again;
Other small, very noticeable signs that their goal has become coercing 'free plan' users to become payers.
So=> my choice to change was NOT simply from impatience;
I have a life to live & many tasks to demand my time daily, so using up MOST of my day yesterday JUST to get FREE of fp is unacceptable to me.
The $96/year for straight up, uninterrupted AT&T services for my partner is a no-brainer & worth every single penny IMO.
If possible we'll also reach for a truly free Life Wireless phone for her later on.
