Wow--40MP camera. The Art of overkill.
Hauwei's night mode camera may have just given the goodnight Irene to other flagship smart phone cameras. I don't know much about smartphone cameras, but there is a noticeable difference when comparing the P20's night pictures to the Pixel 2 XL pictures as presented below.
The larger sensor is bound to give the P20 pro an advantage. It is surprising how good the pixel is considering the hardware it is working with. I'm glad someone is trying larger sensors in phones and I hope others will follow. I am not as impressed with Huawei's software behind its photos - can get too artificial at times. I hope HMD/Nokia come up with something special this year to reintroduce themselves as an innovator in this area like the nokia of old.
