I am starting this thread after being publicly told (scolded ??) to 'get a room' by a fellow member here for posting 'excessive niceness' into another thread.
So - for any members here who desire to post greetings to others during what is a very lonely-ish situation for so many folks, or messages of encouragement and/or positivity - I invite you to jump right in here.
I also ask for anyone who prefers the opposites of those concepts to post elsewhere in whatever oppositional manner pleases them - and to please avoid casting negativity towards those of us who only desire to wish others well here.
There are very definite reasons why it is that solitary confinement of any sort can be so very unhealthy and is used as a severe punishment in prisons & such.
Very few folks are able to endure very much of that life draining sort of abuse for very long.
When folks are truly alone and have ONLY their screens for filling their needs of companionship, it has been seen that many folks begin to imagine screen-only friends as being genuine, real-life connections.
(Yes, I am old fashioned, AND yes, I completely disagree with that concept.)
Examples:
There is no electronic replacement for sitting down to a meal together with others and having NO SCREENS within reach or view.
The simple activity of taking a walk while holding hands now & then can be very soul satisfying for many folks, especially with elders.
There is long standing & well supported proof that babies REQUIRE touch to thrive, and in its later form I have seen this referred to as 'skin hunger' - wherein even a handshake is life-affirming for those who are too isolated, so...
Here I quote a very related article's conclusion, though it may not be quite as uplifting as this thread is intended to be:
To all of us that are currently in quarantine at the moment wishing you could be with your love or simply your friends again, we will make it out of this one day!
Stay safe, happy and healthy.
Be kind to one another.
Best wishes to you all.
Especially you EZ.
You
Extraterrestrial
Angel Demon
lol
Be happy!!
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
REPRISE
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.
Syd Barret 'Pink Floyd' | Change from childhood to 2006
Guitarist Syd Barrett helped found the psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd. After a mental break forced his departure, he spent 30 years as a painter and recluse.
Born in Cambridge, England in 1946
I love the music of Pink Floyd
but it also makes me feel so melancholy.
Because of Syd.
Wow - hardly recognizable !!
Memories abound...the album cover as shown in the reply about 'Time' brought 'Dark Side of the Moon' right to mind.
Way back when I was just a kid living in a 2 room apartment over a hardware store - I had succeeded in getting a very good stereo system (separate tube amps, great speakers, etc...) and was the only guy in our bunch who had his own place - so most days after work we'd all be there and most often of all we would share the enjoyment of that record album (yes, it was vinyl !!).
All those clocks chiming & the other very impressive effects were always a thrill.
Thanks so much for that reminder Soteria 2.0 .
Another favourite musical group from that era was Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and their album 'Brain Salad Surgery'.
To this day I still very much enjoy music that seems to be called electronica and a recent find of that sort is recorded from a very popular & large outdoor show...:
Nora En Pure also made a wonderful tune named 'Tears in Your Eyes', which is played in the above concert segment starting at about the 52 minute mark, but it is also posted by itself (with lyrics) here:
Even though she is not shown playing any instruments in the above, Nora En Pure is actually also a multi-instrumentalist & I think it would be great if there appeared some videos showing her other talents.
I hope others here may find enjoyment in those, and
Best Wishes to All !!
For me - though I also like to see musicians performing - the measure of musical goodness is that of the harmony, happiness, celebrations of the human Spirit and the connections possible via the human Heart which music enables, as may be found in these:
Sitting here in the middle of 'Self Isolation' because of the virus, there are no cars outside, no aircraft flying overhead and it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful except for this beautiful music which makes me feel at peace with the world.
LOL
Until the next "sigh"
If you are sighing as a form of communication, then it's often rude.
Excessive sighing may be a sign of an underlying health condition. Examples can include increased stress levels, uncontrolled anxiety or depression, or a respiratory condition.
BTW, the song I mentioned & linked to earlier, entitled 'Tears in Your Eyes' is actually wonderfully touching in that it could have just as easily been titled 'When I Found You'.
Just got done neatening up the freezer to know exactly what is in there & what to bring out to cook next - a great chore to do in this fine, cool early (4) AM.
Even though the official climate/weather info says it should be spring-like here, and the grasses & birds seem to think so, we're getting little snow squalls on & off, still - which are very pretty & last only until sunrise most days.
So, I'll enjoy reading for a while now, then take Miss dog for a short stroll in the yard, do a couple more before bed chores, then sleep.
All good, simple, happy things.
As I see it=>
Once one learns to find their (inner ??) happiness - no matter what the world may think or be doing - it becomes easy to tune into that as a conscious choice, anytime at all.
