Anyone have any luck getting through to freedompop? I'm thinking the credit card company's gonna get a lot of charge back requests in a month or two.
Update: I just put in a support ticket to https://support.freedompop.com/
I got a ticket with priority of LOW (LOL). I've printed copies of the screens in case I have to put in a chargeback to my credit card company.
I had great success getting through to FreedomPop via Twitter. I've been in constant contact with them since mid-January 2021 about my 7 accounts, transitioning them to Premium Voice, refunding recent topups in those accounts, & awaiting the yet-to-be-deployed-with-no-specific-date-available process for moving unrefundable topups to Premium Voice.
They have been very friendly, and did not try to brush me off with any non-sense. Yes, I'm surprised. They seemed very truthful, especially admitting to me that they will transfer the remaining unrefundable old topup charges one day when they develop a process, but have no idea when that one day will be. Annoying, but seemingly truthful -- they're not making any promises on the date.
I have 3 freedompop account/phone numbers I want to keep. What is the best way to keep them if I don't want to pay any monthly fee ?
I can do the free plan if I spend the $10 for premium SIM. The problem is I have to renew the free plan every month. If I forget or got too busy that month, I would still lose the numbers.
Update: Looks like I am cleared now! I have a spreadsheet tracking my accounts so hopefully I did not miss anything.

Hello Valued Customer,
We are working to improve our service and experience for our customers. We are sorry to hear that you prefer to cancel your account. We have successfully canceled your account.
Thank you for being a part of the FreedomPop Family.
public service message: If you plan to port your legacy freedompop number to another carrier, the PIN is not the one that shows on your account dashboard. I just found that out after a failed port. However, I got the correct PIN via chat.
I was also told that the correct PIN is a standard one for all legacy VOIP FP lines - sort of like how the PIN for porting out of Visible use to be 1212 for everyone. You can PM me for the standard PIN if you don't want to chat with FP.
PS: I'm still having problems. The issue may be that Xfinity thought that the FreedomPop line is a true cell phone line. I have since been told by FreedomPop that Xfinity has to process the port as if the number coming over is a landline.
I have 2 of the annual 1GB/mo SIMs still current, and they haven't received the email about the forced upgrade-- so I asked FP's twitter help if I needed to upgrade. They replied that it was not mandatory to upgrade a paid plan to the new SIM, but it was possible and encouraged that it would be a good idea so that I would be prepared to take advantage of the new wonderful plans.
They also offered to send 2 SIMs for free, so I did that. I'm not sure whether I'll actually make the change, unless someone points out a working advantage to the new SIM for data-only access.
While looking for cheap Premium SIMs from a 3rd party if I needed them (since FP's website now wants $10), I noticed several new pre-loaded FP SIM products at Best Buy. Kind of odd because they don't increment in normal fashion.
All are 3-month prepaid Premium SIMs with cellular voice
$20 for 500mb/100 cellular minutes/100 cellular text, plus unlimited WiFi calling and RCS messaging. Basically a clone of Red Pocket's $60/annual ($5/mo) Ebay plan, with the addition of WiFi calling/RCS
$25 for 1GB/50 cellular minutes/50 cellular text, plus unlimited WiFi calling/RCS messaging. (Might be interesting if they go on sale sometime.)
$31 for 1GB/250 cellular minutes/unlimited cellular text, plus unlimited WiFi calling/RCS messaging. (Red Pocket's similar $10/by-the-month plan includes 1000 minutes.)
On a separate note, I've figured out that if I use the old SIM on an iPhone running IOS 9 and forcing 3G HSPA data, none of my data is being counted. Speeds aren't actually that bad, I can sometimes get 8mbps.
I've also had mixed success in not getting data counted on a Galaxy S6 issued by Verizon. This S6 automatically goes to HSPA+ data when I plug in an AT&T SIM. A few days ago, I was able to use 7 GB of data without any of the data being counted (streaming on PBS KIds by my daughter while the phone was hotspot tethered to my own device as it was replaying Sunday morning news shows during a trip), but it started logging again a few days later.
BTW, I'm not afraid of getting charged because the card I have on file with FP is defunct.
I was able to cancel most of my FreedomPop accounts but my old "Global SIM" accounts say "Fail" when I try to cancel them.
They say that they're no longer active but FreedomPop is still sending me emails letting me know that I need to take action to keep them from becoming paid subscriptions.
So I'm in a catch-22.
I had assumed that they'd catch this and fix it, so I've been trying to cancel each week, but it looks like they're going to start charging me for a service they haven't offered in several years.
I may be in the same boat as you. The one line/number I'm moving over to premium happens to be one that was originally a Three UK 3G line. I only ported this over a few days ago. I was on a chat with FP to hear for myself what will happen to my Top-Up balance. They said that it will be moved over in the future. I asked for a refund of it. They said no. I then asked if I should cancel the old VOIP line. They said not yet, not until April 30 because they are still doing some things on the back end to complete the port (the line does seem to work at this moment).
If I can't cancel on the 30th, I think I'll just report my credit card as lost/stolen and ask for a new number. It happens to be a credit card I don't use much so it won't be a hassle to deal with other vendors on autopay issues.
To quote Chelle "This is why we can not have nice things"
I remember reading the trolls on Reddit would have 25 different Sims and "friend" themselves for a lot of free data. Thus cheating freedom Pop and other members. This is one of the reasons why free service went away.
Chelle, have you tried twitter support? @FreedomPopHelp . I think I would make one list of all your Global SIMs that still have active logins, and ask that they be cancelled.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that the emails on the Global SIMs are an error. They can't be converted to a functioning Essential Plan, since it's a different carrier--and that carrier agreement is long gone. Knowing FreedomPop, of course, the possible billing would be just as likely an error, but they'll have a raft of chargebacks, since there is definitely no way they can deliver the Essential plan on those long-discontinued SIMs.
...that said, I'll try logging in to any old Global SIMs, and follow up with twitter if there are any stragglers-- I converted most/all of mine to LTE SIMs.
I finally closed all my accounts. They were useful when the data was 700MB and also like the free international calling.
For years I was able to unlocked some ATT prepaid phones used on FP. I usually put in ATT prepaid sim in the phone to make a few calls then used them on FP. Not sure if it is related but I was able to unlock some phones thru the site after several months.
Interestingly I recently tried to put in a locked tracfone (att version) imei on the ATT site, it approved my request with an unlock code.
The phone did take the code, however tracfone requires two codes so it didn't unlock.
