Are you talking about phone service (Freedompop Messaging App) or data service too?
If Freedompop Messaging App stops working, then the service converts to Data only, which is not bad.
Also, could you clarify what phones (in addition to iPhones) support Wi-Fi calling (using Freedompop Premium SIM card) on AT&T network?
I understand that it should be AT&T branded phone but it looks like Wi-Fi calling does not work even on AT&T branded phones (except, possibly, iPhones) with Freedompop Premium SIM.
Okay, so if anyone is to keep this plan (doubtful for me but still curious), are they going to automatically top you up on Texts and Calls (mainly texts since calls are easy to control where as texts just come in from whomever decides to blow your line)?
@FreedomPop
Are you guys going to give an option to shut down texts on the line to prevent issues with that (should this be automatic top ups as well)? Also, are you guys moving any existing top up balances or do we have to request those from you guys (if that is still an option)?
RCS works on AT&T MVNOs (I can confirm it works on RedPocket (AT&T), Tracfone (AT&T) and FreeUp). I wasn't aware you could get free texting with RCS, can you share more details on that?
Can anyone report on how the new FP is working on iPhone? Specifically, how well is the wifi calling working? Also, does call forwarding of incoming calls work?
I've mostly been using the existing FP for data only, on old Android phones. If wifi calling works well on iPhones, I'll probably downsize to 1 line housed on a 1st gen iPhone SE that works on AT&T but can't be unlocked (financed by a previous owner).
For those sticking with VOIP Freedompop till the end, it seems that the IOS app can no longer be used as a bookmark to download the necessary APN profile. Instead, a browser page will pop up asking you to switch to the native voice plan. You can still download the profile by opening Safari and entering iOS APN Configurator | UNREAL Mobile. However, the profile seems to be identified with Unreal Mobile, which does work.
Another data point for those VOIP FreedomPop diehards....just activated an 3 month plan unlimited T&T with 1GB LTE data each month I found laying around in my collection of SIMS. Everything working!
For my current iphone with wifi calling, if I turn on airplane mode leaving only wifi, both call and message works as normal. The message can be either regular or imessage. My question is will FP charge for these regular messages made under wifi calling? It is not using wireless network but not imessage either.
I created an account to write a reply here. Been using the free for a while, then got demoted to the new free with 200mb or so, fine.
Today I check my Iphone and the app no longer works, requires me to pick a new phone number.
Sign in online, tells me a sim was sent (unfortunately it had my address of 5 yrs ago) and well makes me go through this new special upgrade to super deluxe premium 10 texts, 10 mins, 25mb plan. Ill wait for the sim, activate/migrate it and then decide what to do.
What a joke.
Update already lol:
Contacted support to find out how I can port out my phone number. She's like I will look into this, takes forever. Then tells me my account was deactivated accidently and she reactivated it with the same plan as before, 200mb, 200min, 500 texts.
I guess i'll take it over the 10mins, might be worth it to contact support if you have the same thing going on.
b00g13, I don't know which site you're logging into at FreedomPop, but my.freedompop.com is still working well, while the other route doesn't always provide info on lines on the old SIM.
So far, moving to the new 10/10/10 Premium plan is optional.
If you want to port out, you'll need to ask Support for your real account number and PIN. (The info shown in the online dashboard is likely wrong.) I did it via their twitter support, and had the correct info in a day.
The VoIP calling app on the old 200mb plan is probably running on borrowed time. It seems to be broken for many users. One alternative is to use the Google Voice app instead-- but this will mean a different phone number.
Just got this email
“FreedomPop is pleased to announce our new Premium Free Plan! Customers will get unlimited WiFi calling, true cellular voice, text and data. In order to deliver this enhanced experience, we will be discontinuing the legacy free VOIP plan. Please order and activate your upgrade SIM by 1/31/21 to avoid service interruption.”
It looks similar to earlier emails sent out, with a new date. I never received the earlier one, but haven't looked for this one.
I did order an 'upgrade' SIM about a month ago for one line. At the time, the site said it was backordered, maybe a couple of weeks? I still haven't received it.
Got the same email. Not a surprise. Been expecting it for a few months now since their last announcement. Surprise they didn't cut me off earlier. Thanks FP, you have been good to me
Unless you use the FP line with the WiFi configuration for unlimited calls and texts or use FP to park a clean line (not plagued by unsolicited texts), its not a great deal except for a car glovebox type setup.
I decided to keep one such line to experiment and so far, no issues using the native stuff (non wifi). This phone has no auto updates and all apps are restricted from data. I also restricted data within Android to 20 MB per month to “use data” but not get in trouble.
App updates are done every few weeks by WiFi. It works but certainly not recommended as a daily driver unless you have WiFi access and properly set up the phone used.
