Fundamental indeed, so fundamental that without a human sense of humor, I doubt any form of AI could pass the Turing test or more sophisticated ones. Then again, some of us lacking a sense of humor couldn't pass the Turing test, but on second thoughts, I suppose the test is sophisticated enough that even the few humans lacking a sense of humor would still pass.
