I only got that offer as a curiosity.
Cannot be used as a glovebox phone 'cuz service is so spotty & rare around here.
Learned long ago that FP plays silly games.
Easy enough to kill off that acc't after watching it for a while.
Bottom line for me=>
FP has not been good enough at anything - not even for wifi only use - to keep it around.
I also got the same email. I chatted with an agent that said it only applies if you exceed your 100/100/100. The auto topup if you exceed 100MB of data is $8 which gives you 1GB of data. The topup for texts or minutes is $2 which gives you 100 minutes or texts. This seems reasonable to me because the reporting of minutes, texts and data can be delayed and if it exceeds the allotted amount would indeed cost FP money. To me it is not worth paying $5 for a Safety mode to give me another 100/100/100, I would just let it charge the $8 or $2 whichever applies.
To me 100MB of data is worthless so I leave data turned off. I will keep my plan unless something else changes. If I ever go over the minutes or texts which would only happen in an emergency. I will gladly give FP some money for being able to have the additional minutes for the emergency.
My FP glovebox phone has already saved me a lot of hassle. When my main phone was useless when the Verizon network went down where I work, I was able to call my wife to let her know to call my FP phone in case she needed to contact me. Hopefully FP doesn't screw up my emergency phone plan.
On my account one number is 3 weeks into cycle, another a little over a week. The email doesn't separate them to know if it made a difference. When using FP it is always a good idea to use a virtual CC.
If you mainly use minutes (not texts or data) and want to use that number, it has unlimited WiFi calling if your device supports that. I have tested the unlimited WiFi calling, and it worked. That may not stop FP from incorrectly billing you for exceeding 100 mins, though.
Hope you don't experience it.
So far no worries in re to the Walmart plan since not automatically toping up, yet (they'll get to that after they're done raking over the Target SIMs)..
I have (a phone that hadn't been powered on in 7 weeks used a gb). Other reports also. Many people experienced it in the bad old days FP which they seem to be returning to.
Kinda like using TracFone brands, lots of people with no issues who happily never needed to contact CS but then again some loose their balances and/or phone #'s forever.
Good luck (& use a virtual CC)
It may be helpful for other folks here to share links to other good sources for VCCs & cheap gift cards ??
Citi cards let you create a virtual account that you can select daily amount limit and expiration date. It helps to keep your main account with them safe from less than stellar companies.
Curious what Chase CC allowed you to create virtual cards? I have a few Chase CCs and have never seen or been aware of the ability to do that via Chase cards.
I have used Discover in the past but they don't offer the ability to create VCC anymore.
Only ones I'm aware of are Citi, Amex & CapOne BUT CapOne & Amex don't work without or work way easier with browser plugins, belch.
Apologies Redrotors - it was a long time ago & via a browser that I barely use now.
After looking around a bit I was reminded of Eno with Capital One.
I'm pretty sure that was what I should have said before.
Sorry about that !!
Apparently some reports (reddit) of the auto top up/upgrade hitting Walmart GSMT plans in addition Target GSMA and 10/10/25 plans.
Only thing strange I see on the Walmart plan I manage is that it says it is out of data even though about half the balance is still showing (49.53mb) & to pay to add data. The payment history doesn't show any attempted or failed charges. Not sure it would or how it would show that??
So far so good for my Walmart GSMT line. A new month just rolled over on 10/11 and no surprise charges. I now have the full 300 min/1000 txt/100 mb data and with my mobile data turned off on my phone, I will never use up any individual allocation.
