Does it go by calendar year or by 1 year exactly from date of last transfer?

Not calendar year. CS explained me, that 1 year from when you made first payment. So if your first payment, for example, was 04/01/18( for previous phone), next eligible buying will be 04/01/19.

I really prefer if Tom confirm this.

This is what I was told in April
"Purchases are from 1 year from the start of the purchase (making your first payment)- so if you made your first payment toward a device April 1 and purchased the device sometime after, you can begin making payments toward a second device April 1 of the following year."

We must have asked about the same time lol
