'End of life' just means no more future updates.
My daily phone is still on Android 5. My backup is on Android 4.4. Both work fine in my low-risk, low-demand application.

Thanks very much for the clarification, @KentE! That's what I figured, but being as unsophisticated as I am tech-wise, thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

And you are so right... I have several apps on my phone that, if I had it to do over again, I would not have updated -- the older versions were preferable.

Thanks again and here's to not going kaput! :)

Here's a Moto E 4 for $42.50 on Boost Mobile(Sprint), a limited time offer. Problem is that it appears to be hard to quickly unlock this phone, unless one is comfortable flashing a custom ROM onto it or unlocking through other not so intuitive means.

I don't know if it's harder to unlock than E 4s locked to GSM versions, but since I have unlocked the Verizon locked E 4 easily, the locked to Sprint(Boost) phones appear, from what I have read on the XDA forum, harder to unlock because of their IMEI starting with#99 which indicates a hidden menu in the OS itself that creates more steps for unlocking. But it can be unlocked. Perhaps someone on this forum knows the easiest way to unlock this phone.

Maybe hot or maybe not ?!?

Back story 1st just to be clear here:
My partner got this offer via email & sent it along to me - no idea if the links will work more than once or anything else as we have no interest in the deal - maybe some folks here might like it though...

Title page says:

FREE SAMSUNG GALAXY J3 SMARTPHONE!
First 2 Months Service Required
Unlimited Talk & Text with 5GB of Data.
No Contracts. No Obligations. No Credit Required.

Source page (link that came in the email, exactly):
info.libertytax.com/lp/ty18/free-phone/?source=email&utm_source=sp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=lts-est-phone-cysuna&utm_content=promo

Claim link from that page:

More info page: info.libertytax.com/lp/ty18/free-phone/clkg/https/libertytax.boom.us/

Here is some of their fine print:

Free phone offer is available when you pay $100 for the first two months of service. Service includes talk, text and data. State and local taxes/fees may apply. No annual contracts; service subject to certain terms. Purchase requires a valid credit card or debit card with verified billing address.

Customer Support 800-767-5599

Powered by the boom! Yellow network, whatever that means ?!?
It goes right to asking if porting is desired with no mention if it costs more or not.

I make no claims here - just sharing this along in case it may be useful for anyone.

boom yellow means sprint. Boom is a good mvno but it is mainly a verizon mvno. The J3 is $129.99 direct from boom just for the phone. IF it is legit then it is a pretty good deal.
