Good question. If it is not on any carrier or MVNO and one has a number from AT&T, Version, Tmobile, Google Voice, etc. to port in, it may work since the number ported in doesn't have to be associated with the phone one is going to use on the plan. You can see if it's considered eligible on the Sprint website with the checker.

www.sprint.com/en/shop/bring-your-phone-to-sprint.html?INTNAV

Here is the promo BYOD check tool:
www.sprint.com/en/shop/bring-your-own-phone.html?phone=byod

The promo does require an eligible device, though you may be able to swap handset to flip phone once the line is established without jeopardizing promo. This handset swap can be done via Sprint website.

Yes, the promo does say that, but on the SlickDeal's wiki dealing with the promo it says, in addition to the list of eligible phones, that just about any Sprint phone will work. And I just remembered that when in the past I checked a Kyocera Sprint Dura XT flip phone, the checker said it was eligible. So it's worth a try.

"The most current list of eligible phones can be found here, but not limited to it: community.sprint.com/t5/P...-p/1020211
Tablets [or iwatch] of any kind are not allowed.
Again regardless of what u read elsewhere, Tablets (or ipad or iwatch) of any kind are not allowed.
Most Sprint phones will also be eligible. Please check your phones eligibility at this link: www.sprint.com/en/shop/br...hop:030918 "

Must've lost a lot of customers to Mint... well, Sprint will probably get those folks back in 3 months... :)

Do they do a credit check, or is this prepaid?

I really want to sign up for this Sprint "free" one year plan!
No question, there's not a better deal anywhere out there.

But, I just can't bring myself to give them my SS # .
And I'm OK with a hard credit check for a home or new car, but not for mobile phone service (albeit with unlimited data).

With great reluctance, I pass.

The impact of the hard inquiry (lower credit score) lasts for 12 months and the inquiry will be removed from your credit report after 24 months.

So when the promotion ends, I have to wait 45 (or 90?) days, then I can go back for more if plan is still available?

What is Sprint checking when I try at 45 days? My ss#? My IMEI? My phone number?

If Sprint is only checking the phone number, then presumably, I can go back within a few days with same ss# & IMEI, but different phone number?

I am thinking your SSN, as that's what they require to set up an acct.
